Dr. Cathy Hughes
Dr. Cathy Hughes graduated from University of Queensland in 1977. She spent 2 intern years at Greenslopes Repatriation Hospital, Brisbane then twelve months in various hospitals in the UK working mainly in Orthopaedics. On returning to Queensland she worked a further 3yrs in the public hospital system finishing in Mt. Isa, with relief rotations through the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Her first foray into general practice was in Maroochydore, but for family reasons she settled on the Gold Coast in 1986. After 7 years with Dr. Photene Weber on Bayview St., Runaway Bay and 11 years with Dr. Terry McGrath and Dr. Bill Thompson on Central St., Labrador she became a travelling locum working many different places in Q’ld and NSW.
Dr. Hughes joined the “family” at Tedder Ave Medical Centre full-time early in December 2015. Her medical strengths lie in the fact that she is a “general” practitioner and has knowledge about lots. As a female doctor she has a wide knowledge of all manner of female problems and a liking for kids. Her earlier orthopaedic experience has led to an interest in working out how people hurt themselves and how to prevent future injury.
She says she is delighted with the welcome she has received from the residents of Main Beach and plans to continuing working at Tedder Ave Medical for as long as possible.
